Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 29, 2026

Atom ("we," "us," "our") operates the website tryatom.ai and develops the Atom AI plugin for After Effects. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights regarding that data.

1. Summary

We collect minimal personal information. We do not use cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts. We collect the information needed to sell, license, secure, support, and improve Atom, such as purchase email, license status, seat/device identifiers, support messages, and optional feedback reports. Atom sends project data to AI providers when you use its features. See Section 5 for details.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Email address: Collected when you purchase Atom, for purchase confirmation, license activation, and support.
  • License and seat data: Product entitlement, license key or account session, seat count, activation status, and device seat identifiers used to enforce license limits.
  • Communications: If you contact us via email, we retain the correspondence to respond and improve our services.
  • Optional feedback reports: If you choose to submit feedback from the app, we receive your written description plus encrypted chat logs and tool activity for that chat. Project files are not uploaded by the feedback flow.

We do not require names, phone numbers, or similar profile information to use Atom unless you choose to include it in a purchase, support request, or feedback report.

Information collected automatically

Our website is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare may temporarily log IP addresses, browser type, and access times as part of standard hosting infrastructure and security services. We do not access or analyze these logs for tracking purposes.

We do not use cookies, analytics services, or any tracking scripts on our website.

Payment information

Payment processing is handled by Polar.sh, which uses Stripe for payment processing. We do not receive or store your full payment card information.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Send purchase confirmations and receipts
  • Deliver software activation codes
  • Authenticate accounts, license keys, and active seats
  • Provide customer support
  • Investigate bugs, errors, abuse, and security issues
  • Send important product updates (you may opt out of non-essential emails)

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on a small number of third-party services to operate. Each has their own privacy policy:

  • Polar.sh / Stripe: Payment processing
  • Cloudflare: Website hosting and security
  • Appwrite Cloud: Authentication, license, seat management, and optional feedback report storage
  • OpenAI: AI processing (see Section 5)
  • Anthropic: Optional AI processing through Claude Code (see Section 5)
  • OpenRouter: Image generation (optional, see Section 5)

Our current subprocessor list is available at /subprocessors.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes. We may disclose your information if required by law.

5. Data Sent to AI Providers

Atom runs AI processing through OpenAI by default, with optional Anthropic support through Claude Code. You authenticate directly with your AI provider or use your team's configured provider setup. We do not have access to your provider credentials or usage data.

When you use Atom, the following data is sent to the model provider:

  • After Effects project structure (layer names, properties, expressions, composition settings)
  • Your chat messages and prompts
  • Composition frame previews (rendered preview frames from your active comp, used to give the AI visual context)
  • Files you explicitly attach to chat (images, PDFs, audio, CSVs, and other supported file types)

If you use Atom's optional image generation feature, image prompts are sent through OpenRouter to AI image providers. No project data or chat history is sent through OpenRouter, only the image generation prompt.

The following data remains on your local machine and is never sent:

  • Full-resolution source footage and final renders
  • Files not explicitly attached to the chat
  • Your API keys (stored locally and encrypted)

Review your AI provider's privacy policy to understand how your data is handled.

6. Optional Feedback Logs

Atom keeps diagnostic logs locally and encrypted. If you choose to share feedback, Atom uploads encrypted chat logs and tool activity for the reported chat along with your description. This helps us debug the issue you reported.

Feedback uploads are optional and initiated by you. They may include prompts, model responses, tool calls, error messages, and project context shown to the model, but not your project files unless you separately send files to us for support.

7. Data Retention

We retain your email address for as long as necessary to provide license fulfillment, customer support, and legal/accounting obligations. You may request deletion of your information at any time by contacting us.

We retain license and seat records while needed to provide the product and prevent license abuse. We retain support messages and optional feedback reports only as long as reasonably needed for support, product improvement, security, legal, or accounting purposes.

8. Your Rights

Regardless of where you live, you can:

  • Request access to the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your personal data
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

To exercise these rights, email us at hey@davey.design. We aim to respond within 30 days.

If you are in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Your information may be transferred outside of Europe, including to the United States.

9. Enterprise and Data Processing

For business and enterprise customers, our Data Processing Addendum, Security Overview, and Subprocessor List provide additional information about data processing, security, subprocessors, and enterprise review.

10. Children's Privacy

Our services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal data, including using HTTPS for all connections, relying on established infrastructure providers, storing API keys locally on your device rather than on our servers, and encrypting local and optional feedback logs. More detail is available in our Security Overview. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you.
